Manta — Terms of Use

Last updated: 5 July 2026

This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") governs your use of the Manta application for Apple TV ("App"). It is a contract between you and Hasijew Applications, c/o Wladimir Hasijew, Terrassenweg 4, 5507 Mellingen, Switzerland ("Provider", "we"), only — not with Apple. By downloading or using the App you accept this Agreement.

1. About the App & Independence Notice

Manta is a media-player client that connects to a Jellyfin media server that you operate or are authorised to access. Manta is an independent, third-party client and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially associated with the Jellyfin project. "Jellyfin" and related marks belong to their respective owners. We do not provide, host, or control any media content, and we do not provide a media server.

2. License

Subject to this Agreement, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the Usage Rules therein. This license is a licence to use the App as a service; the App is licensed, not sold, to you.

Except to the extent permitted by applicable law or by the licences governing the open-source components in Section 8, you may not sell, redistribute, sublicense, rent, or lease the App. Any restriction on reverse engineering, decompilation, or modification in this Agreement does not apply to, and shall not limit, the rights expressly granted to you under the open-source licences of the components described in Section 8.

3. Subscription, Free Trial & Billing (Apple In-App Purchase)

Full functionality — including connecting the App to your own Jellyfin server (or any server other than the demo server described in Section 4) — requires an active Manta subscription, purchased as an in-app purchase.

  • Plan: an auto-renewing monthly subscription.
  • Free trial: a one-time introductory free trial may be offered. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.
  • Seller of record: the subscription is sold and billed by Apple through your Apple Account. The exact price and trial terms are shown in the App at the point of purchase.
  • Auto-renewal: the subscription automatically renews for successive one-month periods unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Manage or cancel: you can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Price changes: if we change the subscription price, Apple will notify you and, where required, seek your consent in accordance with Apple's rules before the change applies to you.

4. Demo Mode

Without an active subscription (or free trial), the App operates in a limited demo mode that connects only to the public Jellyfin demonstration server (demo.jellyfin.org). The demo server is operated by a third party; it may be unavailable, slow, or change or remove content at any time, and we have no control over and accept no responsibility for it. Demo mode is provided so you can evaluate the App before subscribing.

5. Refunds

All purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled solely by Apple in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. We cannot grant, deny, or process refunds for App Store purchases. To request a refund, use Apple's "Report a Problem" process or contact Apple Support. Statutory rights that cannot be excluded under applicable mandatory law remain unaffected.

6. Your Responsibilities

The App has no user account with us and stores no content on our systems. You are responsible for your own Jellyfin server, your login credentials, your network, and for ensuring that you hold all necessary rights to any content you access or play through the App. You agree not to use the App to infringe third-party rights or to violate applicable law.

7. Availability, Warranty & "As Is"

We use commercially reasonable efforts to keep the App functional and to remedy reproducible defects within a reasonable period, by an update or workaround. To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose or of uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the App will be compatible with every server configuration, media format, or device, or that any particular content will play. Playback quality also depends on your server, media files, network, and display hardware, which are outside our control.

8. Open-Source Components

The App includes third-party open-source software, including libmpv / mpv, FFmpeg, libass, libplacebo and libdovi — distributed together through MPVKit under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3.0 (LGPL v3.0) — together with additional components under permissive licences (including MIT, ISC, BSD, the FreeType License, zlib and Apache-2.0). The App does not incorporate any GPL-licensed component. These licences govern your rights in the corresponding components and prevail over this Agreement to the extent of any conflict. The full copyright notices and licence texts are provided within the App under Settings → Legal → Open-Source Licenses. As required by the LGPL, the complete corresponding source code, the exact library versions, and the build scripts — together with a written offer valid for three years — are available at hasijew-applications.com/manta/open-source and on request at [email protected].

9. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Swiss law, we are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence and for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence, we are liable only for breach of essential contractual duties, limited to the foreseeable, contract-typical damage, and in any event capped at the total fees you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the event. Liability for indirect damage, lost profit, and data loss that could have been avoided by reasonable backups is excluded to the extent permitted by law. Mandatory liability under the Swiss Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

10. Term and Termination

This Agreement applies for as long as you use the App. Your license ends automatically if you fail to comply with its terms; on termination you must stop using and delete the App. Sections 1, 5, 7–9, 11 and 12 survive termination. Ending a subscription does not by itself terminate this Agreement; it returns the App to demo mode.

11. Apple App Store — Required Terms

The following terms apply because you obtained the App through Apple's App Store. You and we acknowledge that:

  • This Agreement is concluded between you and the Provider only, and not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services for the App. Any support questions should be directed to the Provider at [email protected].
  • In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any) for the App; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
  • The Provider, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your use of it, including product-liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, claims under consumer-protection or privacy law, and intellectual-property infringement claims.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist-supporting", and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the App.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this Agreement and, upon your acceptance, will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce this Agreement against you as a third-party beneficiary.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Agreement is governed by Swiss law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and conflict-of-law rules. The place of jurisdiction is the registered seat of the Provider (Mellingen, Canton of Aargau), subject to any mandatory place of jurisdiction and mandatory consumer-protection rights available to you under the law of your country of residence.

13. Changes & Contact

We may update this Agreement; the version in force when you use the App applies, and material changes will be reflected by an updated date above. Questions: [email protected].
